We do custom metal
spinning and restoration. We repair silver, gold, pewter,
brass and copper.
Metalspinning is an art that was practiced as long ago as four
thousand years by the Egyptians to manufacture large copper
utensils. Today the trade is known as one of the "Lost
Arts". The metal is shaped using the same principle as a
potter shaping clay, however the item starts from a flat disc
and the spinner uses a tool, held against a fulcrum for
support, to shape the metal on a lathe. There may be only
twenty five to fifty metalspinners left in the United States
(experts in spinning brass, copper, pewter, gold, silver and
aluminum) and Jack Davis is one of them. Jack, with fifteen
years of experience, was trained by a sixty year old German
craftsman who started when he was a boy of twelve years old.
Jack has since trained his family who design and make only
limited numbers of unique, handcrafted items for your
enjoyment.
Jack and
his wife Marie can be found at their shop Monday's through
Friday's and at certain selected shows or fairs.
Jack is
looking for any grants that may be available to assist in
keeping this dying craft alive for future generations. His
dream is to pass on what he has learned through a series of
training programs.
